for Quick and Easy, but also for queasy because the programmers might get seasick!

(Sometimes spelled QUESY)

Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS) Inyokern (later China Lake Station) interpreted autocode for the IBM 701. QUEASY was used by Harley Tillet et al to build the first ever (1953) information retrieval system on a general purpose computer

According to the IBM 701 page, the machine at China Lake was delivered on Aug. 27, 1953, and was "Used to calculate rocket and missile performance and to simulate flight conditions of these devices at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Test Station China Lake"

However Bemer 1957 says that QUEASY was operational June 55.
