DATAPLAN: A Databased Language is a tutorial about programming language concepts in relation to building and using databased information systems. The methodology is procedural and object oriented.

In a conventional Database Management System (DBMS) some tasks are undertaken by a data definition language (DDL), some by a data manipulation language (DML) and the remainder by a host programming language (such as C). A DBMS (and therefore its DDL and DML) is usually based on a particular data model.

DATAPLAN supports the idea that a single language should be sufficient and more convenient to use for all these purposes, and need not be restricted to the use of a particular data model.

Brooker also invented the symbolic Autocode, which was the first high-levellanguage
