AS the title suggests, the improvement lies in this being a compiler version (another is the Wright-Pattern MIMIC) of the original interpretive type. The objectives are to produce a simulation program which readily accepts FORTRAN blocks and to speed computation. The FORTRAS compatibility is done by making the new MIDAS produce an assembled FORTRAN program as one of its intermediate steps. In the early MIDAS, the solution of the problem is done by repetitively interpreting the initial MIDAS state meets. The flow MIDAS computes from a FORTRAN sub routine thus avoiding the time consuming interpretations.

The author indicates the benefits of the new MIDAS by several good examples. Typical of the increased flexibility is his illustration of adding FORTRAN statements for punching cards which are compatible with X-Y digital plotters. This is particularly useful for engineers who prefer graphical output from their simulations.
