reconfigurable data processing technology developed by PACT GmbH. The technology
promises to provide high flexible payloads in future telecommunication satellites and
with a short time to market.
An ESA study entitled ?XPP Applicability Study? has already been carried out to prove
the competitiveness of the XPP architecture compared with the IP for similar
architectures being offered on the world market and the possibilities to transfer the XPP
architecture into a radiation tolerant semiconductor technology.
Another ESA study entitled ?IOFC Implementation Study? was carried to study the
implementation of ATM to MPEG formatting function on the XPP. This study also
evaluated the ASIC, FPGA and XPP architectures for the implementation.
This abstract gives an overview of the XPP core architecture and also the programming
basics of the array and also deals with the possible space applications of such a
    technology. Extract: Programmability/Tools
    Programmability/Tools
Programs are intuitively formulated as flow graphs and these graphs can then be directly
mapped into the array of PAEs. The Native Mapping Language NML a proprietary
structural language with reconfiguration primitives is used. PAE objects are explicitly
allocated, optionally placed, and their connections specified. The XDS (XPP
Development Suite) is a development suite of software tools for the programming and
    simulation of the XPP cores.
