The user must allocate storage for his data from some 8,000 available registers and plan the sequence of processes he needs for his computation. A Meto program consists of a string of instructions, then a string of parameter numbers, then text for report titles, and constant data. A Meto instruction is a pair of numbers: a procedure number and a parameter number, which is a numeric parameter, the address of a parameter, or, for multiparameter procedures, the address of a subsequent string of parameter nurnbers. This seemingly awkward and primitive, though perhaps powerful language is used primarily for statistical processing of meteorological data.
