Abstract: Describes (and gives an Algol definition) of an exemplary target language for a simulated machine called SERA--a Dutch acronym for Seemingly Simple Automatic Computer. SEM i s designed for explaining the basic techniques of translator construction, but without the drudgery and profuseness of detail that makes existing machi-nes so cunibersome for that purpuse, since it contains such difficult built-in features as a stack and a tracer. SERA has been simulated on the Zebra and the TR-4 computers.
