Researcher into visual computing, APL extensions. Founder-director of the Fraunhofer Institute (as in MP3)

Giloi joined AEG-Telefunken as a computer engineer. Later he became professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Technical University of Berlin, the University of Minnesota, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Twice, he was Visiting Professor at MIT. Over the past 15 years he was founding director of the GMD Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Technology, Berlin. Involved in many international research programs, he achieved renown as designer of some of the most powerful parallel supercomputers (Suprenum and Manna) and through innovations in parallel computer architecture and programming models.

Giloi holds a diploma and a PhD in electrical engineering, both from the University of Stuttgart. He is an IEEE fellow and a society Golden Core member. He received the Ring of Honor Award of the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure, the IFIP Silver Core Award, and the Rudolf-Diesel-Medal in Gold, the highest award for inventors in Germany. He is a member of the Academy of Science at Berlin and honorary professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
