DMS(ID:2732/dms002)IBM 4GL - follow up by Dolittle to the FARGO system Related languages
References: Fargo, 1401 Automatic Report Generating Operation, was written by a Californian called Dolittle, a relation of the U.S. Air Force general. I went to visit him on my first transpacific trip, because he was writing a followup to Fargo for the very similar 1440, called DMS. What he showed me of DMS was very impressive. That the much less productive RPG was adopted instead, though, was probably wise, given that Fargo and DMS were chained to the machine language. RPG lives still. in Annals of the History of Computing 19(4) Winter 1997 view details |
