An early effort to make the facilities of the main computer available to non-computer experts was provided by the developers of Corning's on-line order processing system. They made a number of this system's files available to users through the ASI-ST package. ASI-ST is a batch retrieval and reporting package that, while not extremely "user friendly", allows users to generate reports using a minimum number of control statements. Classes were given, manuals were distributed, and in time, corporate files from several other systems were made available through ASI-ST. This represented an early example of the use of "personal computing".
