One group undertaking a commercial effort was Data-Flow Technologies Nederlands (DTN), with the Data Flow C (DFC) system based on the NEC image pipeline processor chip. This group, which was designing a compiler for a subset of C, ceased operations in September 1990. According to a personal communication from Arthur Veen, this was due to a number of factors, including the withdrawal of the investors, NEC deciding not to produce a faster version of the chip, and hardware development being behind schedule.
